Dialysis Transportation in Eastern NC

Three treatments a week, every week. The ride should be the part you never think about.

Why Dialysis Transport Is Different

Missing a Ride Means Missing Treatment

A missed treatment is not a rescheduled inconvenience. It is fluid overload, an ER visit, and an admission that costs far more than the ride.

What Usually Goes Wrong

Patients tell us the same things. A different driver every week who has to be re-told where to go. A van an hour early, or an hour late after the chair was given away. No allowance for the fact that treatment ends when it ends.

The cause is simple: dialysis gets scheduled like a one-off appointment. It is a standing commitment that repeats for years, and it should be booked that way.

  • Standing weekly schedule, not a booking you re-make every week
  • Primary driver assigned per patient, with a named backup
  • Will-call return so a long treatment never strands you
  • Door-to-door assistance, never curbside drop-off
  • Wheelchair, ambulatory and stretcher-capable vehicles

The Ride Home

Trained for How Patients Actually Feel After Treatment

The trip there is straightforward. The trip home is the one that matters.

Post-Treatment Fatigue

Patients often leave the chair weak, lightheaded or cramping. Someone who walked in unaided may not walk out. Our drivers expect this and switch to wheelchair transport on the spot.

Low Blood Pressure

Hypotension after fluid removal is common. Drivers are CPR and First Aid certified and will bring a patient back inside to clinic staff rather than drive away from a problem.

Access Site Care

Drivers never lift or pull by the access arm, and seat patients so the fistula or graft site is protected for the whole ride.

Getting Inside the Door

We walk patients to the door of their home, not the end of the driveway. On a treatment day that is the whole trip.

How It Works

Set It Up Once, Then Stop Thinking About It

1. One Phone Call

Tell us your treatment days, chair time, clinic and mobility needs. Ten minutes on the phone, once.

2. We Build the Standing Route

Mon/Wed/Fri or Tue/Thu/Sat, pickup timed to your chair time with buffer, a primary driver assigned and a backup named.

3. It Just Runs

No booking calls, no weekly confirmations. The schedule stands until you change it.

4. Will-Call Home

The clinic calls when you are ready and we come. No fixed return time, no waiting in a lobby because the van left.

Paying for It

Medicaid, Private Pay, or Facility Contract

NC Medicaid

Transportation to dialysis is a covered NC Medicaid benefit, but Waypoint is not yet an approved NC Medicaid NEMT provider. We are working through that approval now. Today we serve dialysis patients on a private-pay basis or under contract with a dialysis center.

If you have Medicaid, your ride is arranged through your health plan's member services number under managed care, or through your county Department of Social Services if you are fee-for-service. Ask for a standing dialysis schedule rather than booking trip by trip. Call (252) 275-7700 and we will help you sort out your options either way.

If you are on a Tailored Plan, your plan's transportation line handles it.

Private Pay

Standing schedules are quoted at a weekly rate, not per trip, so you know the monthly number before you commit.

Facility Contract

Centers can contract with us directly, with consolidated monthly billing and a named account contact.

Your No-Show Rate Is a Transportation Problem

An empty chair is rarely a patient who chose not to come.

Fewer Empty Chairs

Standing schedules with an assigned driver remove the most common cause of no-shows. A chair that runs is a chair that bills.

Your Staff Stops Chasing Rides

Social workers and unit clerks lose hours every week arranging transport. One point of contact replaces most of those calls.

Will-Call Discipline

We work off your call, not a guessed return time, which keeps the lobby clear and turnover predictable.

One Invoice

Monthly billing across all contracted patients, with trip-level detail and a named contact who answers the phone.

Common Questions

Dialysis Transportation Questions

Does Medicaid cover transportation to dialysis in North Carolina?

Transportation to dialysis is a covered NC Medicaid benefit, but Waypoint is not yet an approved NC Medicaid NEMT provider. We are working through that approval.

Today we serve dialysis patients on a private-pay basis or under contract with a dialysis center.

If you have Medicaid, your ride is arranged through your health plan’s member services number, or your county Department of Social Services if you are fee-for-service. Call (252) 275-7700 and we will help you sort out your options.

Can I keep the same driver for every appointment?

That is the goal on every standing schedule. We assign a primary driver to each recurring patient and name a backup, so the person at your door is familiar rather than random.

Continuity matters more on dialysis routes than on anything else we run.

What happens if my treatment runs long?

Dialysis rarely ends exactly on schedule. We build buffer into every route and work on a will-call return, so the clinic calls when you are ready rather than us arriving at a fixed time.

You are not left waiting outside and you are not rushed off the floor.

Do you help patients who feel weak after treatment?

Yes. Low blood pressure, cramping, dizziness and fatigue are common after treatment.

Drivers are CPR and First Aid certified, trained to recognize post-dialysis symptoms, and assist door to door. If a patient cannot safely walk afterward, we transport by wheelchair even if they arrived ambulatory.

How far in advance do I need to set up a standing schedule?

Call (252) 275-7700 and we can usually have a standing Mon/Wed/Fri or Tue/Thu/Sat schedule running within a week.

Once it is set you do not call to book each ride. The schedule stands until you change it.

Which dialysis centers do you serve?

Centers throughout our 11-county service area, including Fresenius Kidney Care in Greenville and Kinston, Eastern Nephrology Associates locations, and hospital-based and independent units in New Bern, Washington, Tarboro, Wilson, Goldsboro and Williamston.

If your center is in Eastern NC, we most likely already drive there. See all service areas.
